The Objective of each of the treatments applied aims to improve the quality
of life of the patient diagnosed with epilepsy and their families. It is important to know and understand epilepsy to control seizures
Treatments
There are many studies and research carried out today to treat, control and even eliminate epileptic seizures in patients diagnosed with epilepsy.
Treatment consisting of antiepileptic drugs, designed to restore the chemical balance in the neurons and thus reduce, control or eliminate epileptic seizures. The dose and use will depend on the condition of each patient and the doctor's instructions should be followed in order to obtain the desired results. In some cases there can be side effects.
Such as: fatigue, dizziness, rash in skin or problems with their memory, coordination or speech.
Surgical interventions are usually recommended for people with epileptics seizures that cannot be controlled with medications and whose area in the brain does not interfere with important functions such as memory, speech, language or hearing.
Within the surgical interventions against epilepsy there are:
Lobectomy or lesionectomy: a small piece of brain that is responsible for the crisis is removed.
Section of the Corpus Callosum: you cut the union that connects the two cerebral hemispheres. It is usually performed on children in whom crises begin in one half of the brain and extend to the other. It is done in the case of s tonic, atonic or Myoclonic seizure which cause falls.
The purpose of this diet is to take food that can help control seizures. It consists of a meal plan that causes a chemical change in the body. Feeding is based on a high level of fats (oils, butter,...) scarce protein (egg, fish, meat...) and pretty much no carbohydrates (pasta, bread, candies...)
This type of diet is called "Ketogenic" and is because the food ingested and assimilated easily becomes a chemical called "ketone" substance which helps control seizures.
This type of treatment is used in cases of focal seizures that cannot be controlled with medication and where there is no evident brain injury.
It consists of sending information to the brain through mild electrical pulses emitted on a regular basis through an electrode placed along with a generator under the skin.
The electrode is placed in the neck area while the generator is placed on the left pectoral region.
